One of the first things I would like to talk about is the relationship between Gogol and Moushumi, but like most relationships they had their "good times" and bad times. One of the things I hated the most in their relationship was how little they cared about one another, in the novel it says that they "didn't argue, they still had sex and yet he wondered. Did he still make her happy" ( Lahiri 271 ). Like instead of complaining why doesn't he try and fix it, I personally believe that if they just talked to each other it would have ended differently, even if it doesn't work and it still ended with a divorce at least they could have at least ended on good terms and could have avoided Moushumi cheating on Gogol.

"Now Gogol this is what true evil looks like" |
Now its all over, I hope you enjoyed my blog and now to end it this blog with a question since a lot of people like the idea. What do you think about The Nakesake, what did you like and did not like ?
Hey Mohammed! I also had low expectations for the novel at first, as I didn't think it looked interesting based upon the cover. I guess thats why they say don't judge a book by its cover. Throughout the whole novel, I enjoyed the many themes because I felt as though I could relate to them. I agree with the fact that Moushumi and Gogol were never eager to fix things. They were opposed to talking it out, and I personally believe that if they did, their relationship would not have come to an end. To answer your question, I liked that the novel contained broad themes such as identity, family and love. Everyone likes a book they feel as though they can connect to! The broad themes are ones that many people can associate with, making the reader enjoy the novel on a more personal level. Although, in general I thought that the novel was well written and put together, there are times where it felt very dry. I felt like I didn't need a 20 page description on the cottage in New Hampshire. In all, I enjoyed the novel. Your blog post was very interesting, I'm looking forward to your next post! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post Mohammed! I honestly didn't think I would enjoy this book as much either. However, by the end I found that I enjoyed it a lot. Like you mentioned, Gogol and Moushumi could have worked much harder to fix and build a strong relationship. The lack of effort on both sides inevitably was going to lead to a divorce. All in all, the book has many good lesson embedded throughout it and more than anything, the amount of connections I could make to it made it that much more interesting. It was a very realistic book and I normally don't read that kind of genre. Overall, even though it was not the kind of book I would normally read, it is something that I recommend to many people. Keep up the good posts!
ReplyDeleteHey Mohammed! I thought this book was going to be so boring, never expected this book to be so good. I also agree with the fact that Gogol and Moushumi could've fixed things if they talked everything out, which lead to a divorce. l really loved this book because it was so realistic and I was able to make many connections while reading the book. I also learnt that the Bengali culture was so similar to mine. As I never knew much about my culture, this book helped me answer my questions that I've always had about my tradition that I keep forgetting to ask my parents. Overall, I enjoyed your blog.
ReplyDeleteHey Mohammed Great post! I agree with you this book turned out to be a lot better than I expected! I thought it wouldn't turn out to be as good as it was especially since the beginning had a really slow start to it! I also agree that Moushumi and Gogol should've taken the time to solve their issues instead of bottling them up like they did. I feel that if they addressed their issues sooner they could've ended the relationship on a better note or even have saved their marriage. Both of them are equally to blame and could have spoken up instead of dwelling on their issues on the inside. Great post this week I really enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteNice post Mo. Unfortunately I almost completely disagree with you. Like you, at the beginning of the novel, I thought the novel would be boring. To my expectations, it was. I also think that Gogol and Moushoumi's relationship still would not have worked out. This was because Gogol and Moushoumi were too similar. They had similar views on everything. Having different opinions is key to a successful marriage. I think it was best for them to split up. I liked your last picture. It looks kind of similar to a picture in my blog. 😏 I hope to real your summative blog
